Effective January 1, 2021
Which finds the two chemicals Oxybenzone and Octinoxate to have significant harmful impacts on Hawaii's marine environment and residing ecosystems, including coral reefs,
Oxybenzone and Octinoxate cause mortality in developing coral, They are endocrine disruptors. Scientific studies show that both chemicals can induce feminization in adult male fish and increase reproductive diseases in species such as sea urchins, eels and parrotfish aka Uhu..
Swimming and other water activities cause these chemicals to pollute Hawaii's waters..
The purpose of this Act is to preserve marine ecosystems, including coral reefs, by PROHIBITING THE SALE in Hawaii.
It shall be unlawful to sell or offer or distribute sunscreens containing these two very harmful; chemicals.
